A Commitment to Life…….
Thank you for your support of the 2004 Anthony J. Nickols, Jr. Walk
for Life (Walk). Your generous assistance has helped to make our
second annual Walk a success. More importantly, our collective
efforts will help to make life better for many young people
diagnosed with cancer and their families.
I was preparing to celebrate a significant birthday in 1998 when I
learned that my nephew Anthony J. Nickols, Jr., had been diagnosed
with lymphoma. Instead of an intimate celebration with family and a
few close friends, I was inspired to use my birthday celebration
that year to help raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer and
the City of Hope, a comprehensive cancer center. So goes the saying,
“the rest is history”.
Our family decided to establish the Anthony J. Nickols, Jr.
Foundation and since my birthday celebration in 1998, we have been
blessed to raise more than $75,000. We owe our success to caring and
compassionate friends like you.
I am especially proud and grateful for the support of my colleagues
at bd Systems. bd Systems is the lead sponsor of the Anthony J.
Nickols Walk for Life. We are a relatively small company, but we are
large in spirit and strong in our commitment to help children with
cancer and their families. I am equally grateful to the countless
other individuals who have graciously assisted us in ways too
numerous to name.
Anthony’s time with us was far too short, but his legacy lives on in
the hope and assistance we provide to young people diagnosed with
cancer and their families. His courage, faith and grace continue to
motivate us. Anthony would be very proud of the work we have done in
his memory to help others.
We are making a difference in the fight to prevent and end childhood
cancer. Plans are already underway for the 2005 Walk for Life and we
are counting on your participation. Thank you for all that you have
done and continue to do to support the Walk and the Anthony J.
